What Are Virtual Servers?

Virtual servers offer faster control of resources, endless storage and better computing power. A physical server is needed in order to run a virtual server, but one physical server can be turned into many virtual machines (VMs) that have their own specialized operating systems.

Multiple users have access to the resources, and administrators can choose who has access to specific data and files.

PHYSICAL SERVERS VS. VIRTUAL SERVERS

Physical servers are hardware servers with a motherboard, CPU, memory and IO-controllers.They are considered bare-metal servers because their hardware is used directly by an OS (operating system) instead of a virtualization platform. A physical server typically only runs one application.

Virtual servers are software representations of a physical server. A hypervisor abstracts the CPU, memory, storage and network resources from the hardware and assigns them to virtual servers. Each virtual server has its own unique purpose.
